SAP Extended Warehouse Management – the Warehouse Management System for YOU
In every warehouse, from small procurement stores to highly complex distribution centers, those all-important Wh- questions have to be asked all the time. With decreasing lead times and increasing turnover rates, constant transparency is essential for any warehouse manager.
It is precisely in response to this challenge, which faces any company with a warehouse management system, where the SAP Extended Warehouse Management solution (SAP EWM) comes into its own. A key tool of SAP EWM is the warehouse management monitor. It keeps the warehouse management team informed of the current situation in the warehouse and offers alert monitoring functions that permit swift action to be taken in response to specific situations. An SAP-standard version of the warehouse management monitor is available to customers for immediate use, but it can also be adapted to individual needs in Customizing.
SAP EWM can be used as a standalone system or as an embedded EWM in SAP S/4HANA. The embedded EWM version only is available in both a basic and advanced variant, which map the basic functions of a local SAP EWM system. Embedded EWM Basic is included with the standard SAP S/4HANA license while EWM Advanced functions, such as Labor Management for example, can be purchased separately.
SAP EWM is not a substitute for Warehouse Management (SAP WM), but rather an alternative with additional functions. Over the long term, however, given that maintenance for SAP WM will be discontinued by 2025, SAP EWM will eventually supersede SAP WM.
