Cloud ALM Licenses and Usage Rights – What Should You Be Aware Of?
SAP Cloud ALM is, in principle, a free tool offered by SAP. The key question is: What are the prerequisites for provisioning Cloud ALM, and under what conditions can Cloud ALM be used free of charge?
SAP Cloud ALM is the new cloud-based Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) tool from SAP and is set to gradually replace the on-premise solution, SAP Solution Manager. With traditional on-premise solutions, the topic of usage rights was relatively straightforward. The tool was hosted in-house or by an external service provider, and if needed, licensing costs were determined via a license measurement process. With Cloud ALM, however, the situation is different. Cloud ALM is available free of charge – within defined parameters. However, there are several prerequisites that must be met for companies to:
a) provision their Cloud ALM tenant and
b) continue to use that tenant at no cost.
These two points have repeatedly sparked discussions in the SAP community over recent months. The following provides the current state of prerequisites and usage rights.
What exactly is SAP Cloud ALM?
SAP Cloud ALM is a cloud-based solution that helps companies efficiently manage and optimize their SAP applications. It offers extensive capabilities for monitoring and managing hybrid system landscapes, including SAP S/4HANA Cloud, SAP SuccessFactors, SAP Customer Experience, and SAP Ariba. In addition, it provides functionality in the areas of Project Management, Process Management, Test Management, and Change Management.
What is required to request a Cloud ALM tenant?
To request a Cloud ALM tenant, companies must have a SAP Cloud Service subscription with Enterprise Support (cloud editions), SAP Enterprise Support, or Product Support for Large Enterprises. See also here. This means that many existing SAP subscriptions and agreements may already entitle your company to request a Cloud ALM tenant and use it free of charge within the defined usage rights.
